How To Style Camaïeu: Shades of Blue
Monochrome is wearing the same colour from head to toe. If not done correctly, it can look like you have no style at all. Another way to wear the same colour is camaïeu. Camaïeu means different shades of a colour in French and is a subtle play on monochrome. That French word gave me the inspiration for this shades of blue outfit.
When it comes to styling a camaïeu outfit, there are a couple different ways to achieve it. The variation from one shade to another could be from the difference in hue or intensity or you can diversity with one or both.
To style camaïeu as a complete outfit, such as my head to toe shades of blue hues, from light to dark. If you just want to style it as part of your outfit. Let’s use a different colour this time. You could be wearing a pale pink top, with dark pink shoes, a bright pink accessory with blue jeans and a classic trench. Have fun with this rule!
My french blue silk top has quite a story to it. Every single time I went to go order it, it was out of stock in my size, 00. When it finally got back in stock and was able to order it, I was sent the royal blue instead. Everlane resent the top. Still arrived in the wrong blue. Turns out there was a factory issue and the colour was actually out of stock. Finally get the right colour and I notice a mark on it, Everlane sends a new one. Finally a keeper! As soon as I got this top, I knew I wanted to style it in different shades of blue.
The perfect pant to create my camaïeu look, are my side zip work pant in navy. As you know I am a huge fan of the Everlane work pant. This is my second time styling the navy pair. The black has made more appearances. The pants are a different hue than my top creating the perfect look. As for my navy mules, they are a slightly different intensity and almost a different shade than my pants.
Styling this type of look can definitely get your creative juices flowing since there are lots of ways to go about styling it. I personally had fun and it makes for a stylish, chic outfit!
