February Favourites

february favourites

Happy March! February seemed so short and so long at the exact same time. I cannot describe it. There were lots of February favourites this past month. I tired lots of new products. Some I loved and some not so much. I’m excited to share with you the things that I loved! Read on to find out what my February favourites are.

February Favourites

H2Glow

Clove + Hallow sent me this hyaluronic acid serum with vitamins B3 and B5.  My skin gets so dry in the winter, especially around my chin. This serum has helped so much with my dry skin.

Everything Oil

This oil is amazing. I purchased this after seeing some before and after pictures online. This oil is a mixture of black cumin, squalene, organic rosehip, and argan oils that help with oil production, and moisturize skin and full of antioxidants.

Innersense Inner Peace Whipped Creme Texturizer

I love Innersense and many of their products have been in my favourites before. I actually bought this texturizer awhile ago when I bought Detox Market’s Innersense Box. There were like 5 full size products for about $60ish dollars. I finally decided to try it and I cannot believe how well my waves looks. On nights that I wash my hair, I add it and while my hair air drys the waves look the best they’ve been in a while. And on days that I don’t wash my hair, I am able to reform the waves with my fingers by adding a bit more!

Hydrafacials

A clean beauty boutique near me, London Beauty, has been offering $30 hydrafacials. This has been my first time getting a hydrafacial and I am obsessed. I’ve gone ever Sunday in February. My skin is looking so healthy and glowing. If you’ve never gotten one before, I highly recommend.

Search Party

Search Party is a TV show on HBO. Show is a satire on millennials obsession with true crime. I completely agree with that, as I love my true crime podcasts and shows like Dateline. The show is definitely a quick watch. I watched all 4 seasons in about 3.5 days.

Framing Britney Spears

I’m sure I’m not the only one who watched the Britney Spears documentary on Hulu. Just going back and seeing interviews with Britney when she was under 18 is shocking! The media definitely had everything to do with her breakdown in 2008. I feel so bad for everything she was put through with her father as well.

Verso Dark Spot Fix

The first time I went to London Beauty for a facial, I was given a sample of this dark spot treatment. As many of you know, I am dealing with hyperpigmentation on my face from when I was doing my candida detox. I noticed a difference on my face with just a week of use!

Tips to Help Your Hair Fight Humidity

I love the summer months. The warm weather and being outside all the time is what helps get me through those cold winter months. But with the warm weather comes humidity. Humidity and my hair do not get along! I have naturally wavy hair so my hair frizzes very easily. Here are some time to to help your hair fight the humidity!

Tips to help your hair fight humidity

The Right Shampoo

Find a shampoo that helps fight the frizz. Also skip all the heating tools since that can actually make your hair even more frizzy and no one wants that. Instead let your hair air dry!

Don’t Cut Your Hair

It’s not just the texture of your hair but your cut that can also drive you crazy. Do not get bangs during the summer. They are more likely to curl and frizz and will be less uncontrollable. Keep those for fall and winter. Same goes for choppy hair! It can make in unruly during the summer months.

Embrace Your Natural Texture

Don’t try to fight the humidity! Embrace your natural texture. If your hair is curly, just let it be. Don’t try to straighten it knowing it’s going to curl as soon as you go outside. Try using alcohol free products that fight humidity and seal in moisture. Add it to wet hair and let air dry!

Professional Treatment

If  you really want to spend the money and get a professional treatment, it’s a great solution. A Keratin treatment deep conditions and and eliminates frizz. The treatment lasts around 6 months too!

Just Braid It

When it doubt just braid your hair. Braiding your hair makes it looks like you put in the effort and still makes it manageable. Braids also help keep the hair off your neck when it’s super hot out.

BTW, My Hair Care Products

Categories: beauty, hair

My Hair Care Products

I’ve gone through and given you guys my morning and night skincare routines but I’ve never done one with my hair. I know I called this post my hair care products but it is mostly my routine with the products I am currently using.

When it comes to my hair, I am very lazy. I do not like blow drying it or straightening and curling it. I’m very simple.

Brush My Hair

Since I have naturally wavy hair, I only brush my hair on days I wash and deep condition. I use a wooden hair brush. Wooden bristles are proven to stimulate hair growth. Mine is from an Italian brand called Tek. It is very hard to find but I just found out you can now order on their website. A hair salon near my house sells their combs but not brushes! I desperately need a new one since both Reika and Charlie like to bite it.

Shampoo and Condition

I only wash my hair twice a week. I make sure to use a sulfate, paraben, and silicone free shampoo and conditioner. Currently I am using Raw Sugar Living, which happened to be in my June favourites post.

Deep Condition

I deep condition my hair also 2 days a week on days I don’t wash my hair. I am currently using a deep conditioner from Trader Joes.

Hair Care Products

After I wash and condition my hair, not deep condition, I use a split end serum, and a frizz oil. Whether I am washing my hair or deep condition, I  use my DevaCurl Gel. I love this gel a lot since it holds my wave. I don’t use the serum or oil on my hair on days I don’t want because I don’t want the extra product in my hair. After I wash and deep condition I plop my hair overnight to help with my waves.

Dry Shampoo

On days that I need an extra refresh! I actually don’t use it very often, only when my hair really needs it. Just like my shampoo and conditioner, my Primally Pure dry shampoo was also in my June favourites.

So there you have it! These are the products I use and how I use them! What’s your hair care routine?

Kenra Professional Summer Collection Review

Kenra Professionals recently released a new summer collection which includes the Platinum Snail Anti-Aging Collection, Platinum Heat Block Hairspray 22 and the Shaping Spray 21.

I was lucky enough to try out the products before they were released! Now, I only wash my hair about 2 times a week, so I only used these products a few times.

Kenra Platinum Snail Anti-Aging Collection

The Snail Ant-Aging Collection is enriched with snail essence, which is a highly concentrated blend of proteins (Don’t worry no snails were harmed in the making of this product). The snail essence helps fight 10 signs of aging of the hair, including dullness, breakage, frizz, unmanageability and more!

Shampoo

The shampoo smells amazing and it’s really creamy. It’s SLS free which is a huge plus in my book.

Conditioner

The conditioner is also smells nice and smells differently than the shampoo. I do think the scent is a bit too strong for me though. I have really bad asthma and sometimes highly fragranced products both me. It’s not overly strong so I can handle it. Another con I have is that it contains silicone. Also not a huge deal but I try to avoid it when I can. I am more concerned about silicone in my skin products.

CC Cream

This product is super light when I put it in my hair. It is also very easy to work with. The only con I have is that it also contains silicone as well.

Conclusion

I actually like they way all three products work together. Lately, my naturally wavy hair has been falling flat and is extremely frizzy due to the humidity. Now my hair is still getting a tad flat but it’s so much wavier than it has been. I also think it’s because that I need a hair cut and my bad ends are weighting it down. My hair is still frizzy but not as bad. I think there is nothing that really can be done about my frizz.

I wash and condition my hair at night, I put in the CC Cream (I was not using any other hair care products during this test), then I plop my hair until morning.

Again, my only con is the silicone and currently lots of my other hair car products still have it.

Spray’s

Kenra Platinum Heat Block Spray 22

This spray is a lightweight finishing spray that contains Bee Propolis, which is a naturally sourced resin that provides thermal protection. The spray is also humidity resistant and you can spray it on your hair throughout the day. Sadly, there is also silicone in this spray.

I’ve used the spray on both my dry and wet hair. When I use it on my wet hair, I do it after the CC cream and before I plop my hair. When I use it on dry, it’s the next morning when I’m done plopping. After using it both ways, I think I prefer to use it on my wet hair. It helps a bit with the frizz and my hair isn’t as crunchy when I use it dry.

Kenra Shaping Spray 21

What I like about this hairspray, is that it is alcohol free. I don’t really use hairsprays all that often but when I do, I prefer that they are alcohol free. And it’s hard to find a good hairspray that’s alcohol free until this one! It is also optimized for moisture retention! Perfect for the Michigan humidity.

Unlike the Heat Block Spray, I’ve only used it on my dry hair. It does not make my hair crunchy and it holds my wave! But of course there is silicone also in this spray.

Conclusion

Even though both sprays are different, they are made basically to do the same thing: hold your style in place and help protect against humidity. I definitely like the Heat Block 22 better for my wet hair and the Shaping Spray 21 for my dry hair.

Overall Thoughts

I do like Kenra’s new line of products. I do wish the products did not contain silicone but what can I do. They definitely helped a bit with the frizz. And I do like the concept of having the snail extract and the bee prop0lis in it. I feel like they help make my hair healthier.

What do you guys think of Kenra’s new summer line?

I would like to thank Kenra Professionals and BrandBacker for sending me these products. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

July Favourites

I cannot believe that today is the first of August! Where is the summer going? I feel like it just became July.

Of course since it is a new month, that means it’s time for my monthly favourites.

Boots Botanics All Bright Micellar Water

I am a fan of Boots products, so there is no doubt I wouldn’t be a fan of their Botanics collection. This micellar water takes off all of my makeup and makes my face feel clean and fresh.

Acure Shampoo and Conditioner

It has taken me a while to find an all natural shampoo and conditioner that I like. I can read every single ingredient on the list and know what it is. It smells amazing and it makes my hair so soft and shiny.

Moon Souls Bath Salts

I got this in my July Vegan Cuts box. It’s amazing and I feel like I am at at spa. The only con I have to it, is that there are so many flower petals in the tub afterwards that I need to clean up.

RMS Beauty Un Concealer

I didn’t know concealer could make the skin around your eyes healthier until I tried the RMS Beauty Un Concealer. It’s coconut oil based and it’s so nice. I love the way it just glides on my skin. Plus it’s silicone free.

Terre Mere Cosmetics Mineral Bronzer

This bronzer was also in my Vegan Cuts box. I was actually on a hunt for a new bronzer when I got this. The first time I used it, I used way too much. I figured it was like Bare Minerals “Warmth.” It is not. A little goes a long way and it looks so natural on my skin.

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil in Vanilla Apricot

Not sure where I got this sample but I love it. It smells amazing and it makes my skin so soft!

The Wonder Seed Facial Scrub

Ironically, this is also from my monthly Vegan Cuts box. The Wonder Seed products are 100% vegan, cruelty free and paraben and sulfate free. It’s also safe for the most sensitive skin. The brand claims it helps improve skin texture, balance oil and helps clear up rosacea, acne, eczema and psoriasis (Marina I hope you’re reading this). I actually think my skin looks healthier after using this only a few times as well!

Suits

Suits came back for it’s 7th season in July, and I could not be happier. I feel like it was off the air for a while. With Mike now back at the firm, the show has the vibe like it did when the show first started! Plus Donna and her comments! If you’ve never watched it, please do!

What have you guys been loving?

Plopping: Hair Technique For The Best Curls and Waves

I discovered plopping for curls and waves about 2 years ago and I’ve been doing it ever since. Plopping is a hair technique where you wrap your towel dried hair in a t-shirt overnight or for a few hours in the morning.

I plop my hair on nights that I wash or deep condition it, otherwise I wear my hair in a bun when I sleep.

First, I start with a shampoo and conditioner free of parabans and sulfates. Currently, I am using this shampoo and conditioner. After I get out, I wrap my hair in a towel until I’m ready to add products. I do NOT brush or comb my hair while it’s wet.

I’m always trying new products for my hair, so what I use always differs. Usually, I start out with a hair primer or serum. Then I’ll add a leave-in conditioner followed by a curl cream. After that, I’ll tilt my hair upside down and I’ll smooth gel through my hair before I scrunch it upwards. I’ll then let my hair air dry for a few minutes before I wrap it up.

When I wrap my hair in a t-shirt, I find using a larger shirt much easier to tie around my head than a shirt that is normally the size I wear.

I lay the shirt on my bed then I tilt my head and let my hair fall onto the shirt while lowering my head to the bed. Next, you grab the ends of the shirt and pull them to the nape of your neck. Then you grab the top of the shirt and pull it down and around to tie in front.

plopping technique for the best waves and curls

Here’s me after I plopped my hair. I’m also not wearing any makeup.

I sleep with the shirt on and I usually keep it on my head until I’m done with my makeup.

Have you ever tried plopping? If you haven’t tried it and are going to, let me know what you think!

Have a wonderful day! xx Jennifer

She thinks a skin cyst formed while healing. If this is the case, I will need surgery again 😩I have a CT scan tomorrow and a follow up appt next Monday. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that is not the case.
