It’s my birthday!!! Before I even shot this outfit, I knew it was going to be my birthday post outfit! Two of my favourite wardrobe pieces together in one outfit- my gaspard jumper and blaze midi skirt. So much has changed since my birthday last year. Last year, I was in L.A. visiting Caitlin. Little did I know in a few short weeks, the entire world was going to shut down. And I definitely didn’t think we would still be stuck at home.

Normally, my style is super classic but I do love the girly outfits! And this outfit is just the right about of girly with my classic pieces. Both the gaspard jumper and the blaze midi skirt are so versatile. Both have been styled multiple ways. And the addition of my bow definitely adds the girly touch. Since I am wearing a bow, I decided to wear the gaspard jumper with the buttons in the back. That way, all of the details are in the same spot!

Birthday Giveaway

Since it’s my birthday, I am doing my annual birthday giveaway. Lots of prizes means lots of winners. And as you know, I am also hosting a fundraiser for my birthday to raise money for Little Hearts Learning. You can view all the details for this in this post here. I’m doing a giveaway for those who donate money and I thought I could do a little something for this giveaway as well. For every $5 you donate, you will get an extra 5 entries for my birthday giveaway. Just let me know you donated for the birthday giveaway and I will manually add in your extra entries. Good luck to everyone!

The Timeless Sweater

The Timeless Sweater

The timeless sweater: a sweater you can wear with everything. To qualify it as timeless, a neutral colour is a must, and should be a simple cut and a discreet knit, so it matches with everyone of your winter bottoms.

How To Choose

I recommend owning at least one cashmere sweater because it’s warm and not bulky. If you can only have one, I recommend choosing a neutral colour like black, navy, grey and beige. The sweater’s shape should be slightly loose and not extremely fitted. Depending on what suits your body and style, it can be a v-neck, crewneck or turtleneck.

How To Style It

During the cold winter months, replace your shirts and t-shirts with sweaters. What’s even better is to wear your sweaters on top of them for an interesting base layer. For work looks, your sweater is a great companion piece to dress down your pencil skirt, cigarette trousers or blazer.

Style Tips

  • Layer your sweater over a dress, instead of a cardigan, transforming it into a skirt.
  • Roll your sleeves up for a cool and casual look.

My Outfit

I love tan and white together. They make a great neutral colour combo. The best part of this outfit, is that these pieces can together or separately. My cashmere sweater has been in my wardrobe for quite a few years and I love it. Not only is it a great neutral colour but it’s such a timeless piece.

Birthday Fundraiser

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I am raising money during my birthday month for Little Hearts Learning. LHL’s goal is to help break the poverty cycle in communities, one child at a time. Currently, they are working on building 2 new schools in Papua New Guinea. If you’d like to donate money, you can directly send it via PayPal or Venmo (@jenniferlpickering) and I’ll be making a large donation at the end of the month. Or if you’re more comfortable, you can donate directly on their site but make sure to put “Jennifer’s Birthday Fundraiser” in the comment box. For every $5 you donate, you’ll be entered to win a Pixi Beauty Mini set. If you donate directly to LHL, send me a screenshot so you can be entered.

Winter White: Cream Sweater and Silk Skirt

I absolutely adore this outfit! It’s the perfect winter white. This cream sweater, as you know, has become such a staple in my closet. And this silk midi skirt is a semi new addition to my closet. I shared it in my holiday outfits post and I ended up purchasing. I don’t own enough long skirts. My only other midi length skirt is my leopard print one, which I definitely get a lot of use out of. Because of the winter months, I decided to put the cream sweater and silk skirt together to create this winter white look!

What I love about this voluminous silk skirt is that it can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion. I think it would look really cute with a chambray top for spring. Hopefully by then, I will have the skirt altered. The one thing about being petite is that I have to get a lot of things altered. My skirt is currently pulled up high and also rolled at the waist a few times.

You probably can’t tell, but it was bloody freezing when I shot these pictures! It was also windy, making it even more brutal to shoot. The location however is perfect for this outfit. These were shot in downtown Birmingham, over by a movie theatre, which is a huge stone building with carvings.

Ear Update

I wanted to do a quick update on my ear. I had my second post op appointment January 27th. The rest of the packing was removed from my ear. My hearing sounds well but I’m super sensitive to loud noises at the moment. I should get used to it. And my ear is still ringing. And on the 24th, I have a third post op appointment where I will have a hearing test done. Hopefully it will all go well!

Cream Sweater and Plaid Blazer

I have become a pro at re-styling clothing I already own. That’s what happens when you become a sustainable fashion blogger and don’t buy unnecessary clothing. This cream sweater has made quite a few appearances since I purchased it in the fall. You can check out those looks here and here. And for the blazer, this was a big purchase I did from Everlane about 2 years ago. I really don’t think I’ve shared it as much though, so of course I had to pull it out of my closet to create this cream sweater and plaid blazer look.

I really do love the sweater and blazer together. With the blazer being oversized, the sweater shouldn’t be too baggy so that’s why I have it tucked with a French tuck. High waisted skinny jeans with a belt, help balance out proportions. I also used accessories to help make the outfit. In one of my pictures, you can see my new chain bracelet from Missoma. Damn those long sleeves! I also paired this outfit with 2 of my chain necklaces and my rising sun medallion necklace.

These pictures were taken outside of a cute coffee shop in Detroit. My friend and I went down their one weekend to check out a super cute home goods store called Urbanum. I was so tempted to buy more plants but I currently don’t have enough windowsill spots. And I just bought a car so I’m trying not to buy things I don’t need. Afterwards, we went to 2 different coffee shops (I couldn’t have the milk options at the first one). It was a fun weekend!

Sézane’s Gaspard Jumper 2 Ways

Sézane’s Gaspard Jumper is probably the most iconic piece from the brand. It’s definitely their most well known piece. I remember last year, I had French fashion post, and my Pinterest graphic I made featured the cardigan. Someone commented on how they knew the post was going to be about French fashion by not even reading the title.

I’ve been eyeing the Gaspard jumper for a while and I finally got it! There was some back and forth on what colour to get it in but ultimately, I decided on Nude. Peony is also a gorgeous colour that I would love to get. One thing that they make clear is that it can be worn with either the buttons in the front like a cardigan or in the back. You can even wear the cardigan open as well. I personally like wearing it buttoned up with only the top few buttons unbuttoned. The site says it runs TTS. I am wearing an x-small. It is kinda big but I am also wearing the smallest size.

Here I am showing you two ways that I styled Sézane’s Gaspard jumper.

The first look is from when my friend, Marina, and I went to Toledo for the Firefly exhibit at the art museum.

For this look, I am wearing it like a cardigan. I adore the mother of pearl buttons. Because the cardigan is slightly big, I went with a French tuck. I paired it with my Sezane Perfect Slim jeans and my brown booties!

For the second way, I wore the Gaspard jumper like a sweater. This is by far my favourite way to wear it. The way it lays, make it look so effortless. Of course I did a French tuck as well. This time, instead of booties, I wore my knee high boots. I also kept all of my jewelry the same as well.

Just by changing the way you wear the Gaspard jumper, you have two completely different looks. This sweater has definitely become a staple in my wardrobe and I cannot wait to style it more ways!

This cashmere cardigan is has become one of favourite staples for these cold winder months. It is so versatile. I love wearing it by itself or under a top like I am here. It’s literally a completely different look with the top. I love wearing it both ways but on days that I am feeling more lazy, I just throw it on by itself. But I also feel more dressed up wearing it like that. When I pair this cashmere cardigan with a white tee or tank, I feel more casual but I can dress it up with jewelry.

Speaking on jewelry, I realize I never talk about my pieces enough.  Majority of my jewelry is from Missoma and a few pieces are from Mejuri. All of my necklaces you see me wear are Missoma 99.9% off the time. I love my gold coin necklaces and chain ones. The beaded coin necklace that I am wearing was my very first Missoma piece and probably my most worn necklace. My Marina Chain Necklace I got last winter and it has also become one of my daily worn pieces, especially with the beaded coin necklace.

These pictures were taken outside a cute little coffee shop in Holland, MI. My friend and I went when I was in Grand Rapids for work back in November. I’ve literally been going to Grand Rapids my entire life since both my parents grew up there but I have never been to downtown Holland, which is maybe 30-40 minutes from GR. It is such a cute little town with lots of cute shops. Would love to go back again!

Next week, I have a follow up appointment for my ear surgery. I’m hoping everything looks good! Fingers crossed!!

I was complaining to my doctor that my ear is constantly popping, it feels plugged and it feels like the tube is moving. She looked in my ear and noticed part of it was white. She thinks a skin cyst formed while healing. If this is the case, I will need surgery again 😩I have a CT scan tomorrow and a follow up appt next Monday. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that is not the case.
